Directions
Take the SAT461 forest road immediately after the village of Cornelle in Fiavè and keep to the right as far as Corde, where you will find the next signpost. Here we change to the SAT 462B trail. The path follows the road through the forest and, after a short, steep stretch, we reach the Tombus area. Continue walking along the flat road, which then becomes a path until it crosses the forest road heading uphill from the Ballino pass. Follow it as far as Rocchetta, where the gravel road ends, turning into a military mule track that climbs the magnificent beech forest at a constant gradient. Once in sight of Malga Nardis, we continue along the trail that crosses the pasture among the mountain pines to the malga.
After a well-deserved rest, take the SAT 461 trail up the pastureland to the north of the alpine hut until you reach a clearly visible pass. From here, the panorama becomes even more extensive and satisfying, ranging from Lakes Garda and Tenno to Mount Baldo, from Pasubio to the Brenta Dolomites, the Adamello Presanella group and the nearby Ledrensi Prealps. We continue along the ridge, keeping to trail 461 and after a short descent through rhododendrons and alders we reach Malga Cogorna. Cross the pasture in a northerly direction, following the signs for Cornelle, until you reach the edge of the forest. Here the downward trail, always well shaded in the woods, becomes steeper in places and in a couple of hours brings us back to our starting point, thus closing a ring route that is definitely rewarding from a landscape and panoramic point of view.
Given the scarcity of water along the route, it is a good idea to have an adequate supply of liquids and, given the exposure, to tackle the climb early in the morning, especially in hot weather. This is a circular route that can be tackled in both directions, climbing first to Cogorna if you want to tackle the more technical part uphill.
